Client Case Study: Government Department – Cyber Security Improvement

Client Challenge

Our client, a Government Department responsible for operating, maintaining and improving major roads, initiated a series of programmes to support a highly complex, £27.4bn, 5 year-long portfolio of work that will establish the long-term vision for road networks through to 2050.

To ensure that the ICT infrastructure was capable of meeting future requirements, they embarked upon a large Cyber Security Improvement Portfolio and launched a full market competition through a government framework to identify a supplier that could provide Cyber Security and Information Rights expertise and capability on a Statement of Work basis.

Our Solution

We provide a dedicated Service Delivery Team that is responsible for the operational management and leadership of our service. They worked closely with the client upon award to agree processes and ways of working to ensure that our service was delivered on a fully managed basis.

All of the Cyber Security and Data Protection work that we deliver is aligned to agreed Statements of Work (SOW). The SOWs are created by our Service Delivery Team, with input from the client, and set out the outcome to be delivered including the time, cost and quality requirements, and any risks or dependencies associated with delivery. As part of the process, we identify and verify any resources that we intended to deploy to meet the requirements.

Our SOWs contain clearly defined time-bound deliverables and agreed acceptance criteria, and all work is delivered without oversight, direction, or control from the client. We lead on regular SOW review sessions with the associated SRO to ensure alignment of deliverables to business objectives, and conduct weekly and monthly progress calls to discuss delivery of SOWs, identify risks and capture opportunities.

Knowledge Transfer is included within each SOW and is incrementally provided through delivery. When a BAU/permanent team are identified to carry the work forward, our team work closely with them to handover and upskill any of the client’s or alternate provider resources. We achieve this through a formal handover process including a fully documented handover pack, tool usage instructions, and access to our Knowledge Repository/Wiki.

We manage up to 60 concurrent SOWs and over 100 of our resources are deployed within the service at any one time.

Value Delivered

We have delivered Cyber Security Improvement Portfolio (CSIP) for five years, and have consistently met our delivery obligations, achieving excellent feedback on the programme.

Under our ownership, CSIP achieved managed rating, the highest score ever achieved by a portfolio due to the delivery management and governance controls adopted.

We have provided excellent value for money through delivery, continually benchmarking delivery costs to remain the best priced delivery partner and have worked hard to maintain the cost envelope for the client, avoiding unnecessary change activities that would impact pricing.
